The story of two rings & two miracles

The story of two rings & two miracles

by Michelle | 26 Jan 2020 | Art of Joyful Living, General

Do you believe in Miracles? Do you know deep down in your belly you have absolute influence over your reality? Do you have ‘nay-sayers’ around you whose default is ‘that’s not possible’ but you believe it anyway?… I want to share...
Looking for the *sacred* in every moment…

Looking for the *sacred* in every moment…

by Michelle | 26 Jan 2020 | Art of Joyful Living, General

Do you ever intentionally look for… …the *Sacred* in everyday things? I find myself doing this more and more… Each morning I walk with Lulu on our farm. She loves the early exercise and I’m grateful I’m a morning person. I see a lot more...

Hey there, lovely to meet you. Thank you for popping in to visit!

Today’s work I wanted to build on yesterday’s piece but create more depth.

I’ve discovered that doing more painting with oils and a thinning/ drying medium allows me to do the kind of brushwork I enjoy. Then the palette knife is good for the details of texture and marks in the areas I want the viewer’s eye to be drawn to.

Thank you @jeniefawcknerart for your helpful feedback and guidance 🤩
Since the 27 Feb (yes, the day before the first of Since the 27 Feb (yes, the day before the first of the heart-breaking floods) #murwillumbah has been home.

This new abstract work in oils using impasto medium is me bridging my learning from @jeniefawcknerart back to my more usual abstract landscape work.

If you flick through you’ll see the work as it progressed. I always take process shots - they are a great way for me to learn and to ‘see’ what needs to happen next as I go along. There’s something about the frame on my iPhone and the scale change that really helps.

And I know I’m late to the party, but can I just say… Loving 🥰 working with #oilpaints.

Loving the class and the challenge of painting in a whole new way.

We are doing our own subject matter today - this pic of Wollumbin on Bundjalung country.

Flick through to see progress shots from where I began this morning.

New colour mix - Prussian blue + olive green - great colour for the shade of trees. Prussian blue, ultramarine blue and titanium white for the hills.

I don’t use Prussian blue in my acrylics favouring Paynes grey, but I’m loving this colour.

Still plenty to do this afternoon in the foreground details.

Vibrant colours from leaves of the bleeding heart plant. Feeling a strong pull to red and red-browns today.

I love the fossicker in me.

The one that finds precious things and puts them in her pocket.
Kara Walker’s art requires the viewer to partici Kara Walker’s art requires the viewer to participate with the work. I remember the first time I saw her silhouette works. Such powerful images that made me feel uncomfortable. Always a good sign. And so I did some reading about how she deals with racism and other important issues in American society.

I have been considering how my abstract landscapes can allow the viewer to take an active role - making sense of the marks and textures and form - as I share works that are about our modern life - how it diminishes nature and her central role in our health and wellbeing… and her inherent sacredness, quite apart from what we get from her.

Looking at progress this morning… not 100 yet… Looking at progress this morning… not 100 yet… but I’m not done ☺️

More #markmaking with #monochrome palette before I finish- it’s getting tougher. I’ve done all my ‘easy’ ones, and some that have been more of a stretch but this is where it can get interesting.

Yeah, time to recommit. Loving this iteration of #the100dayproject.
