The process of art making is how I hear what I need to say.

Playing in the studio... the challenge is to work

Playing in the studio... the challenge is to work fast with acrylics and pencils on paper... don’t over think, just get marks down that have variety. . I produced 12 x A4 sheets in about 30 mins. Felt good. Fun to play and not care about ‘these precious’ pieces. Just done and move onto the next. . I used a limited palette - white, Payne’s grey & turquoise...with some pencils and charcoal. . After they were dry, I went looking for elements that were working by using a mat board so I could isolate parts. Add some touches to finish these pieces. . Have 12 small works available. . Artwork is 11cm square and outer dimension of mat is 25cm square. . Each work: $98 with mat and timber frame; $75 with mat, no frame. . Send me a message if you are interested or have any questions. back in the byron studio doing some #collage again... . this is the early stages of #artistsbook no. 2. . exploring creating this one in memory of a friend we lost last year way too young... . she and I both worked in coastal planning so looking at images of shorelines and coral reefs... and a palette she would have loved too.

I love working with multiple canvases on the go...

I love working with multiple canvases on the go... I shuffle them around where I’m working, adding colour /details to one and then with wet paint on my brush grab another from where it’s propped up against the wall / bookshelf and start in on it! . After a ‘sesh’ I might not have finished any, but moved several further down the path to finishing. . It’s like a creative leap frog! 🐸🐸 . These detail shots are of one the canvases I have ‘on the go’... . It’s fun looking at these little miniatures within a larger canvas too. I see more when I isolate parts - bits I like and want to repeat (albeit differently) in future works, bits I don’t think work and need some touches. . Loving time in my studio today. It’s a good day!!

#details of new abstract work... . Besotted with this colour palette of red earth and phthalo turquoise / marine blue... and all the tertiary colours that come from mixing them with each other and amounts of white. . Collage of hand drawn icons inked onto reused brown paper bags and stained tissue paper. . Two more of this series are on the go. . Loving time in the studio after a big week working on Cape York. Schmushing paint around is such a grounding thing after two days travel plus three days of workshopping up north.

Just finished this... an artist's book, "The Book

Just finished this... an artist's book, "The Book of 3 Breaths" (and the link to the video flip through so you can see it now is in the comments below). . This will be part of my exhibition with Rachel Eberhard and Helen Douglass showing 25 February - 10 March next year at Metcalfe Gallery, Brisbane Institute of Art.

Reading “Clear Seeing Place” at the moment... a book about being an artist by Brian Rutenberg... . Wonderful read. Thoroughly recommend it for anyone, not just people into art.

Here’s the latest from my studio... “of Earth

Here’s the latest from my studio... “of Earth & Song”... . loved playing with large scale collage of hand-painted papers in these canvases. I used tissue, flip-chart and sketchbook paper. . Remember those stunning cut outs that Matisse did in his later years? Like The Swimming Pool... . okay - I’ve not got figures in mine, true. ☺️

Some details of 3 new canvases painted together as one. . Loving the differences of the small frames within the larger canvases. . I’m looking for their title... ‘of Earth & Song’ is the front runner this morning. . I’m off to the studio to film the final canvases so I can finish the time lapse of these coming to life. It takes a long while to make these but they can be SOOOO worth it!
